Issues regarding the transitioning from the role of a student to a new graduate nurse:
There are several issues that are likely to be faced by an individual while transitioning from the role of student to a graduate nurse. These issues majorly involve workplace bullying, conflicts and work stressors.
Workplace bullying is one of the most common challenges faced by the new nurses these days. It is known to everyone that medical profession comes with the hierarchy of seniority and whenever a new person comes into role, he is likely to be the target of the senior hierarchy contributing to the workplace bullying (Walton et al., 2018). This workplace bullying is extremely worsened as it is associated with certain other challenges of the workplace. It can cause emotional trauma as well as professional dilemma to the student who has recently transitioned into a professional nurse. Bullying nurses in the workplace is prominent in several aspects. Nurses are not only being bullied by the senior management and doctors only, but also through other nurses and co-workers. The reason for this bullying could be many but several times it is just because of seniority or insecurity due to the exceptional performance of newly transitioned nurse (Perera et al., 2018). According to one of the study, it was estimated that around 74% of the nurses are bullied at a workplace in one or the other manner. The challenge is affecting nurses to a great extent because it affects them emotionally as well as mentally. Several times, it is seen that due to the workplace bullying the nurses often faces several mental issues severe anxiety and depression which needs the support of specialist to be intervened (Walton et al., 2018).
